I forgot to add this to the “clean” recipes yesterday, but it has become a favorite in our house. It’s adapted from the ketchup recipe from The Eat-Clean Diet for Family & Kids.
1 can tomato paste
1/4 cup water
1-2 tablespoons agave nectar (or honey/maple syrup)
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
a couple squirts mustard (I use spicy brown)
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
In a small bowl mix all ingredients together. Place in a tightly sealed glass container and store in the fridge. Makes about 1 cup.
The cinnamon and cloves really kick it up a notch, and gives this ketchup really good flavor. I’m never buying commercial ketchup again! Even Gwen loves it, and uses it for dipping a variety of items.
